The word ritual scares many people, it sounds mysterious and dark. When in fact, everything we do in a repeated pattern is just that…a ritual. When a ritual is done is a sacred or special way, with a presence of sincerity and concentration, it becomes a ceremony. This says “this is important enough in my world to recognize this as a life event”. That is what we are going to do for our New Year ceremony. This ceremony is called Setting The Intention. |
The primary drive within all human beings is intent. It decides guilt in court, it determines success in business and it provides a mission statement for human behavior. Many people make New Year’s proclamations called resolutions. Many resolutions fail due to the lack of intent, as they are missing this hidden drive to push them into a successful conclusion. They are too vague (or worse yet), too specific to allow the Universe to work with them. So let’s review some ways you may state your intention to the Universe.
Instead of “I want to be healthier in the New Year,” let’s give that idea some substance. Give it an intention. What do you intend to do to meet this goal? We all know the difference between a pharmacy and a farmacy is good food choices. The recent movement to organic goods vs. GMO induced products is our psyche supporting the fact that food can be medicine, or poison. So the actual change would be “I intend to use food as my medicine”. Changing this foundation will then slowly change the subtle choices your make throughout the New Year, allowing your goal to be met as the intention behind it will support these changes.
Instead of “I want to have a relationship in the new year,” we again change this ritual of seeking the same old thing yet another year. The intention is to discover what is blocking your from a healthy stable relationship.
Anyone can have a relationship, it is when you discover the blockages that are stopping you from having a good relationship, and this will open the flood gates. So we may say, “I intend to reveal my relationship fears and blockages”. This will be a healing and sealing time, removing old scar tissue and allowing a healing to take place. Only in this newly cleaned and healing space can something new take root. Otherwise when seeds are sown in the same old barren fields, nothing of value will be produced.
So now that you have a better understanding of the Intention part of your ceremony, let’s move on to the reference items to help us set the intention. You will want to collect; a bird’s nest (easily found at a craft store), eggs that will fit into the nest (plastic, wood, etc.), a gold Sharpie, a red ink pen, and 3 slips of small paper.
Focusing on 3 different areas you want to work on in the New Year, write your one intention sentence per piece of paper using the red pen. Meaning, there will be 3 areas you are working on, and thus 3 different intention statements. Fold your paper into a small square and put it to the side for now.
Hold the nest in your hand and focus on what a nest means to you; the promise of new life, potential, and of course security. This is YOUR nest, your sacred space to place your intentions for the New Year. Take one egg, and with your gold Sharpie, write the one word that represents your intention for that egg. Place the matching intention statement on the folded paper and place the paper beneath the egg in the nest. Do this for each egg, and each piece of paper with your intention statement into the nest.
Once you have completed your nest, find a place in your home will it will not be disturbed. If you can place it in the right hand corner of your home (yes, the right hand corner when standing at your front door), this is the abundance corner of your home, this will add that manifestation energy to your nest. This is not necessary however, but just an extra boost.
Now you have Set The Intention for your new year, have created clear statements, and will begin to manifest the Universal requests. It is important to remember, the Universe will supply your requests whichever way it sees fit (thus the reason for clarification with the intention statements). This you have no control over, surrender and allow the Universe to move you into whatever energy is best for you.
I like to do this on Jan. 1st, of each year.
